Annabelle is making a valiant attempt at organization, if only for distraction's sake. Connor's been gone and, well, she misses him a LOT.

Her closet had turned up with weird stuff in it again, but it is at least stuff she's mostly familiar with this time. She's going through the pile when she sees a familiar pair of worn bamboo canes. "Heh. I haven't thought of these in years," she says with a chuckle.

Once upon a time, the Æon Society found a culture that appeared to be based on the Amazons from ancient mythology. As you might expect, Annabelle got on with the female warriors quite well indeed.

She starts moving through the motions her body still remembers of one of their sword dances, the short bamboo sticks serving in place of swords.

It takes a bit for her brain to recover. How I ended up there in the first place, or the dance? Or both, of course.

Okay, so words are not completely useless... Both? You know I never tire of hearing abut your adventures. Even if he does worry a lot sometimes.

It takes a moment or two to dig up the details, as it was more than a decade ago.

People had gone missing, and I was the only one free to go and do some searching in the jungle. she says with a rueful chuckle.

Probably a good thing, in hindsight. It could have been Tallon who ran into them instead of me! While Tallon mellowed quite a bit over the years, he never DID entirely approve of women being warriors and explorers. (On the other hand, considering he grew up during an era where slavery was perfectly legal in certain parts of the United States....he was surprisingly liberal.)

Right person for the right job. Even if you did not knew when you started checking it. Ah, the wonder of mental conversations: no hidden meanings, no misunderstandings.

I suppose. She says with a mental chuckle. I wasn't too keen on heading out, especially since that translation device of Dixon's made the back of my eyes itch.

Mental conversations are definitely a plus. Especially since you can share video, sort of.

A jungle: dank, hot, and humid. Oh, and eerily silent. "Oh, this isn't foreboding at all." memory!Annabelle mutters sarcastically to no one.

Oh, a movie. Annabelle has great movies, even if they turn very scary and worrying at times.

Connor draws her closer, and 'listens'.

And unlike Hollywood, they really ARE based on true stories! Which...may be why they are so scary and worrying sometimes, come to think of it.

Annabelle steps forward between two especially large tree trunks, and the world seems to tilt sideways for a moment. She throws her arm forward instinctively to try and catch her balance, and her hand hits a rock face that definitely wasn't there a second ago.

Annabelle sighs, and looks around. Yup, it's not the same jungle she was in a second ago. Fucking pocket dimensions.

Grumbling, she starts following what looks like a trail crudely hacked through the brush.....

After much swearing, swatting of insects, and a surprise close encounter with a viper that was dangling from a limb, she reaches what looks like a camp. A very empty camp.

"Ah shit. Wonder what the hell ate them?" No, she's not assuming they've all just stepped out for a potty break or a spot of tea. Call it paranoia if you like, but it's kept her alive so far!

Paranoia? It is a completely empty camp.

If the people were not eaten already, they are being munched currently.

Om nom nom.

Speaking of being eaten....there's suddenly the sound of shouting and something very, very big moving through the jungle.

Most people would take this opportunity to run the hell the other way. Annabelle....is not most people.

It doesn't take all that long to get close enough to catch a glimpse of the beast. It looks like something out of H.P. Lovecraft's fever dreams, an eyeless horror whose form wavers at the edges. Plant-life around it smokes and withers as its monstrous form passes over it. Up in the trees, warrior women are shouting at the thing, dodging it's attacks and watching their spears and arrows clatter off of it without leaving a mark.

To Annabelle's experienced eyes, it's clear that the women KNOW they can't kill this thing. If she had to hazard a guess, this is a suicide mission to draw this thing away from their tribe....

That... makes Connor tense a bit: he draws Annabelle closer, knowing she's about to do something Incredibly Dangerous.

Well, memory-movie-Annabelle is, at least.

Memory!Annabelle isn't going to do anything Incredibly Dangerous! Well, not right this second, anyway.

Despite the grumbling from her teammates, she DOES learn from her mistakes. Ending up in the mouth of a T-Rex was quite enough to teach her the folly of small scale armament on something that big.

Think, Memory!Annabelle, think! Wait, she's almost sure there was a crate or two of dynamite back at the camp.

Oh dear. There is a PLAN afoot....

...he knew it.

Connor sighs and draws his girlfriend even closer.

If they get any closer, they may be in danger of fusing together...

What? What's so bad about killing big nasty things with explosives?

It was a perfectly sensible plan! Her idea of sensible is.....unique. Or maybe just deranged.

Sensible.

Right.

Connor ponders for a moment if he really wants to know what Annabelle did...

Annabelle is looking at him with a faintly confused expression. What was she SUPPOSED to do, let it eat people?

Besides, there's no guarantee she wouldn't have been on the menu next.

Annabelle's plan involved: making a crude spear, attaching a bunch of dynamite and a lit fuse to it, throwing said McGyver'd contraption so that it got stuck inside the monster's mouth, and hoping like hell it didn't get spat out before the KABOOM.

And of course, standing in front of the monster to have a good aim at the mouth, right?

And close too, to not miss.

Right?

(He worries. It's a boyfriend thing.)

The thing's head EXPLODES shortly after Annabelle makes her shot. There is a veritable shower of ick, as you might imagine. Ewwwww. On the other hand, Memory!Annabelle is repressing the urge to do a victory dance.

Poor Connor. It must be hard being Annabelle's boyfriend.

Eh, the best things in life are definitely not easy to have and to keep.

At least she did not blow up herself, so there's a lot of relief there as well.

Annabelle stops the mental 'video' at that point.

They were rather impressed, she says with a chuckle. Apparently that thing would wreak havoc for a few days, eating everything in it's path, then disappear for about a hundred years. It had plagued them for pretty much their entire history.

Annabelle blushes. The thing I didn't realize at the time, was that when I heard the translation of what they called me as 'battle blessed', that came with a lot of extra...baggage.

...like what? Now, he's wondering why the blushing...

Good thing he's going to get an answer on that, then. Well, being semi-divine, for one. Yes, the idea of a tribal people thinking the strange foreigner is a god is a stereotype. That doesn't mean it can't happen.

Now Connor puzzles: Annabelle is a goddess... so the natives were not far from the mark.

Did they also offer you a few concubines and brides?

Who knew you could mentally roll your eyes at someone? Am not.

Annabelle flushes further. Thanks to the clarity of hindsight and sobriety, she's pretty sure the queen's daughter and her friends were most definitely trying to seduce her after they'd all danced and gotten rather drunk. Especially when Hippolyta and Bricea kept dropping hints that their newest, well, boy toys, would be joining the group of warrior women at the hot springs. Surely the Battle Blessed One was in need of a little...pampering after such a battle and a long journey?

No, no, the boys wouldn't mind at all. They were quite eager to meet her actually, and Hippolyta and Bricea would love to make the introductions. They were quite certain she'd be pleased with them...

The innuendo went right over Annabelle's head.

Connor does not snickerfit mentally.

They must have been left really disappointed, wondering what they did wrong...
