Memory and Dream

Annabelle feels groggy when there's suddenly a bright light in her face, causing her to open her eyes. The grogginess is quickly washed away by fear and dread. The machinery stretching above her and the table that she's strapped to is terribly familiar by now.
She struggles and curses, but there's no one human in here right now, just a robot guard. The screaming gets on the nerves of the human scientists, you see.
Annabelle can't help but tense when she hears that all too familiar whine of the machine starting up. Electrical energy arcs from one piece of machinery to another and the pain begins.
It feels a bit like being punched all over her body for a minute or two, but the worst pain comes much faster this time. Annabelle can't see, can't think, the world is nothing but agony, as if every nerve has been set ablaze....

It is past. Happened, but is not happening. You are safe. He lets the words echo, and touches the most recent real memory of Annabelle's: going to sleep in her room, watched over by him.

Date: 2010-01-01 07:19 am (UTC)The dream shudders like a soap bubble about to burst, but Annabelle hasn't quite broken free yet. The memory skips forward a bit in time...
Annabelle is still strapped to the table, gasping for air. At least she's no longer being drained, for the moment. A male voice, it's tone faintly interested, speaks.
"The yield is still higher than standard, but A-2-3a seems to be developing a tolerance to the serum." There is the sound of a pen scratching on paper. "If we double the dose we ought to be able to keep it alive for at least a few more sessions. I'd like more data from it before we do the terminal drain and autopsy..."

Date: 2010-01-01 07:45 am (UTC)He will no change the memories, no, but there is a screech of pain... coming from the scientists.
The mental image is a gift for Annabelle: a flare of violet light, and the torturers are having their spines pulled out, one vertebra at a time. Something like this is what they deserved. It takes a long time for the bastards to stop screaming.
I am here Annabelle. You are safe.

Date: 2010-01-01 07:56 am (UTC)Iverson was the one who was speaking, the fellow in charge. I don't know exactly what happened to him, other than the fact that Michael...dealt with him, permanently. When someone with super-human strength decides to really hurt someone....

Date: 2010-01-01 08:00 am (UTC)It is not a nice feeling, but they are still hurt and angry deep inside.
Or not so deep, in some cases. Enough with nightmares? Together, in her dreams; Connor draws Annabelle close.

Date: 2010-01-01 08:06 am (UTC)I've had enough of nightmares, she agrees. But since you're already here...what would you like to see? Annabelle has been nearly everywhere once, and she's more than willing to play tour guide.

On the distance, a strange mix of motorcycle and helicopter flies past, leaving clouds of steam. That is KK. She is a mechanical genius, she and Caz built most of the infrastructure of the area.

Date: 2010-01-01 09:26 am (UTC)It seems like a lonely life.
A mental smile. It's a shame that she's unlikely to run into Jake, they seem to have a few things in common. A love of flying, a certain bent for making things work, a familiarity with psychic abilities, and damnably difficult to kill.

Date: 2010-01-01 08:10 pm (UTC)London is silent.
Far below, there are people on the streets, a few children playing, but overall? Very quiet. Most days are like this: Kirk is up here watching, Karl is in the garden with his plants, and the rest of us are scattered around, helping where needed.

Date: 2010-01-01 10:05 pm (UTC)That sounds a bit like what we used to do. There were always metaphorical fires that needed putting out somewhere.

Date: 2010-01-02 04:34 am (UTC)She likes the kiss, although it's rather hard for her to return the favor.
Who knows? As long as they don't breed with anything carnivorous, mobile, poisonous or hallucinogenic we should be okay. She shakes her head and grins. I've run into all of those, and they were no picnic to deal with. Hearing colors and seeing sounds is not something you want to have to deal with when you're trying to keep a giant plant from eating your teammate and the plane.

Date: 2010-01-02 05:09 pm (UTC)You've got about as much as you can handle at the moment. Who knows, give it 100 years and you might be able to cover all of London.

Date: 2010-01-03 07:00 pm (UTC)Karl likes this a lot, the quiet; sometimes I wonder if we really did make it happen all on our own.

Date: 2010-01-03 07:07 pm (UTC)Now that she's facing the right way, maybe he won't mind if she kisses him.
Oh? I don't know enough to guess whether anyone or anything else may have been involved.

Date: 2010-01-03 09:04 pm (UTC)She startles a bit when they move to the dock, but recovers quickly. I don't know much about boats, other than that they sink when you put holes in them, Annabelle admits with a small smile.

Date: 2010-01-03 11:23 pm (UTC)She chuckles quietly as she sees Jack hop out of the boat. It's a shame that Caz and KK are unlikely to meet Dixon. A mental image of the scientist comes to the front of her mind. I suspect the results of any project they collaborated on would be....interesting.
She grins. He drinks like a fish, smokes like a chimney, and is more than humanly brilliant when it comes to engineering.

Date: 2010-01-04 12:16 am (UTC)It might be just as well that he's unlikely to run into them...I shudder to think what the three of them might end up making once KK and Caz start getting intoxicated.
Annabelle chuckles. He built what was essentially a giant glue gun once. It hardened around people and you had to either go at it with a pick-axe or practically drown the poor sons of bitches in vinegar to get them loose....

Date: 2010-01-04 05:00 am (UTC)Hold on. He concentrates ad the position changes again, to show the Market, where people are busy trading and bartering goods. The old market: busiest part of Whitechapel all day.
no subject
Date: 2010-01-04 05:14 am (UTC)Annabelle smiles at the sight of the market. It seems that some things don't change much, wherever you are. Connor may pick up images of other markets in other far-flung places: Cairo, Capetown, Canton, Tokyo...and many more. The language, faces, and goods change, but the 'feel' of them is very similar.

Date: 2010-01-04 05:28 am (UTC)And speaking of peace, maybe I should let you go back into normal sleep? You need to rest, and we can finish the tour later. Of course, it may also have to do with the temptation of dream-seducing her...
no subject
Date: 2010-01-04 05:41 am (UTC)You're probably right Annabelle says with a small smile. I'll see you in the morning?
It's not surprising that that particular temptation has crossed his mind, he's only human.

Date: 2010-01-04 07:08 am (UTC)He will let the dream panorama fade into the sensation of being tucked safely in bed: hopefully her mind had enough entertainment and Annabelle will have the chance of sleeping deep and long.
