Trinity/FreakAngels AU: A Heart as Cold as Ice.
Time has passed, as it tends to do. The Æon Society has recently received word of people going missing in Greenland, and not the kind of people you'd expect to go missing, either. Natives and experienced trackers and wilderness experts have simply gone missing for no readily discernible reason.
That's why Annabelle Newfield and Connor are here to investigate. Mysterious disappearances tend to be their kind of trouble, one way or the other.
A friend of Jake's has dropped them off in a remote village with his plane before haring off on another errand.

She teases him a little, "The young lady is part of that, yes? Annabelle?"

She ponders whether to ask him something. She doesn't want to be rude, but she is curious. Rumor travels very fast indeed, and she's curious as to whether her guests have abilities not shared by most humans.

He can feel her curiosity, as he naturally senses moods around him, but lets the woman work the question out on her own.

She teases right back and waves a wooden spoon in a mock threatening manner. "I'll have you know I dealt with that with both of my sons, and I'm more stubborn now than I was then."

She waves her hands experimentally underneath the spoon. "Oh, you'd give a stage magician fits!," she cackles.

"My friend Arkady thinks there is no limits really to what we can do... it is just a matter of practicing, trying, testing. But I think she has too much wishful thinking."

"The world is a stranger place than I ever imagined," she adds with a chuckle. "Perhaps there's some truth to the family legend after all."

"I hope your young lady usually instills more sense in you," she teases. Considering that Connor's the one who's likely to talk sense into Annabelle...

"Ask most anybody, and they'll tell you I haven't much sense at all."
Annabelle is rather ravenous herself this morning. She murmurs her thanks and tucks into the food with a will.

And a replay of that kiss of the day before, this time with much more feeling.

And then she remembers that they have an audience. The downside to being fair-skinned is that it's really obvious when you blush.
Their hostess is trying very hard not to laugh at Annabelle's sudden embarrassment. "I have been married three times and raised five children," she says with a wave of one hand. "I doubt the two of you could get up to anything I haven't seen before."
