Sometimes the Society has to dabble a bit in espionage and under-cover work to find out who the bad guys are and strike at the heart of the problem. They have recently received information from a Medium in London, who received her information from a deceased young man of the upper crust. Someone is targeting well-to-do couples for indoctrination into a cult and, in at least one instance, then arranging for them to come to a very terminal end.
To find out what's going on, they need someone who can both infiltrate the group and protect themselves if and when things go to Hell in a hand-basket. At the moment, that means Annabelle is going to have to spend an evening or two posing as a proper lady.
This is not a thought that fills her with joy. However, if Connor was along....well, the whole affair might even end up being pleasant instead of a few steps up from torture.

Date: 2010-05-01 05:00 am (UTC)Annabelle is wearing a dress that's something like this. It's quite striking on her, especially since she doesn't normally wear anything that emphasizes the more sensual aspects of her figure.
Thank you for coming with me. Annabelle 'says' as they make their way into the ballroom. I'm not sure I could get through this evening without you. After about the twentieth time someone tries to discuss the weather with her, she gets a little punchy. Having Connor on her arm should cut down on that considerably.

Date: 2010-05-01 05:23 am (UTC)Annabelle blushes faintly at his reply.
Nothing is amiss yet, though thanks to the heels on her shoes Annabelle is stalking more than striding. Connor's not the only one in the room to notice Annabelle. He might pick up interest from most of the men present, and the occasional spark of jealous resentment at said attention from some of the women.
Both seem to be fading as Annabelle more or less ignores the existence of anyone other than Connor.
I will never quite get used to thigh holsters Annabelle says with a mental grumble. Not that they bothered asking any of the women if we were armed. Idiots. That last word carrying a wealth of disdain.

Date: 2010-05-01 06:58 pm (UTC)Annabelle's answering smile when he guides her to the dance floor is a brilliant one. She's a good dancer, and she likes dancing with him very much.

Date: 2010-05-01 07:56 pm (UTC)She doesn't really want to mingle and talk to all these people she doesn't know, but they are here for business, not pleasure. Now we have to go and be social butterflies Annabelle says with a mental sigh. Have you picked up any likely prospects?

Date: 2010-05-01 08:15 pm (UTC)It looks like their luck has run out for the moment, as a large middle-aged gentleman and the much younger pretty woman on his arm are making a beeline for them.

Date: 2010-07-04 04:53 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, sometimes borrowed cars have flat spare tires, which is a real pain when you've gotten a flat in the middle of nowhere.
At least there's a small church over the hill. Maybe someone there will be able to help?

Date: 2010-07-04 06:07 pm (UTC)The church is, well, a church. It is decidedly lacking in the menacing atmosphere and creepy decor department.
A middle-aged man in a worn suit looks up from his dusting when they come through the door, and smiles. "Can I help you?"

He extends a hand to Connor, "I'm Bill Pardy, the local pastor."
