AU: Trinity Universe/FreakAngels crossover: First date

OOC: Takes place not too terribly long after this thread.

After certain events at the Chicago harbor there had been considerable amusement within the Æon Society over the pairing up of Annabelle Newfield and Connor. (Whitley Styles had won the betting pool, despite Jake's claim that he cheated.)

As for the reactions of the other FreakAngels to the news, well, who knows?

There was a furious spate of trouble starting the very next day, of course. All of the Society's founders have been run ragged for the last few weeks. For the moment though, things are quiet. (Or at least, if things ARE going crazy somewhere, someone else is handling the problem.)

Annabelle and Jake got back in town at some ungodly hour this morning, whereupon she fell asleep on one of the couches near the fireplace. (Jake is probably off somewhere regaling a pretty woman or two with tales of said adventure, because that's what he does.)

She needs her sleep.

While Annabelle rests, someone makes sure the area remains quiet.

Later on, perhaps the scent of breakfast rouses her? Someone left a big tray nearby...

It works like a charm, as it happens. Tasty, fried, artery clogging goodness is a siren song to someone who burns as much energy as she does.

Annabelle's surprised by how hungry she is when she wakes up, she must have slept longer than she thought...which raises the question of who left this here.

The staff tends to be a bit cautious around her when she's out of it, thanks to her habit of reacting badly when startled. (She hadn't meant to scare the cook half to death, honestly!)

Well, it helps when you can 'vanish' from ordinary perception: arrive, leave food, and depart unnoticed.

It also helps when you have no ill intent, right? But anyway, the food is still hot, so it must have not been left there long ago.

Om nom nom. Sorry, busy refueling. She's keeping an eye out for her mysterious benefactor, though.

Not much of a mystery, really: when she is nearly done, Connor wanders over from the hallway. "Hey."

"Hey," Annabelle says with a bright smile when she catches sight of him. "Care to join me?"

She's missed him.

"Already ate." he shakes head a bit, but sits down on the couch.

Not too close, but not overly far either.

Insecure, much?

Poor dear.

She's not quite sure how to read the situation, so she decides to kiss him and see what happens. Annabelle's a little insecure too, she just has rather different ways of dealing with it. :-D?

Connor is... surprised?

But absolutely not displeased: then the kiss ends, he's much closer.

Holding her, even. "I missed you."

She's holding him as well. "I missed you too, silly," she says with a soft smile.

"You'll be happy to know I didn't end up with any extra holes in me this time." She pauses, "or set on fire, thankfully."

Yeah, they ran into more than they expected on this mission. Surprise?

Connor draws her closer, then, a protective hug. "I'm glad." And worried.

He likes Annabelle in a special way, so... yeah, worry about her well-being.

"Turned out it wasn't a device at all, but one hell of a pyrokinetic," she says leaning into the hug.

"Thankfully, he wasn't as smart as he thought he was," she adds with a smirk. "Gravity's a bitch when you're 15 stories up."

He went splat, a LOT.

She doesn't mean to make him worry. It's just that, well, this is more or less NORMAL for her at this point in her life. Things trying to kill her is just one of life's unpleasant little surprises, like unexpected rain showers.

Connor gives a nod, kissing Annabelle again.

He's just glad she's back, and unharmed, even with all the danger.

Kissing is good. "Looks like I'm going to be home for a while," she adds with a chuckle, holding up crossed fingers.

Annabelle has never been on a date, so she's not sure what exactly people DO under these circumstances. (David, well, that murdering bastard doesn't count for anything, damn it!)

"Well... we could go catch a movie? Ice cream?" Just spend time together, and pretend the world is not such a dangerous place.

"We could, couldn't we?" she replies, a bit surprised. Neither of those things are activities she's generally had in her life, for one reason or another.

"I think Lillian's got something new out, so that will likely be the centerpiece at the theaters." Going to the movies in the 1920's is likely VERY different than what Connor is used to.

She chuckles. "She sends me a Christmas card every year, so I suppose I should help her career out a bit," she adds with a wink. People tend to remember you when you save them from certain death.

Connor is likely to enjoy the 1920's movie-going: no crowds of brats and hooligans spoiling the experience for everybody. "We could. Tonight? Tomorrow?"

Annabelle blinks, then grins. "They don't generally run them at night, not when people generally stay all afternoon."

Seriously. "They'll run, oh, lots of other things besides the feature," she explains. "News, cartoons, shorter films..."

"Sounds very different from what I knew... and sounds more fun too." He grins. "So, which time?"

Annabelle laughs. "Going to make me choose, hm?" She eyes the angle of the sun through the window. "We might be in time for this afternoon, if you wanted to go today?"

"I'd not mind. But you might be tired still, we could go tomorrow." He would prefer Annabelle to be rested and relaxed.

Annabelle smiles softly. "Point. Besides, you haven't told me what you've been up to yet," she teases.

They can actually catch up with one another and just sit and talk all afternoon! Is this that thing called normalcy that usually happens to other people?

"We did not do too much... I spent most of my time in the library, reading and writing." Putting thoughts in order... adapting. "Learning about the 1920's."

"It's a hell of a lot to get used to," she replies, a bit concerned. "Even if we don't have killer butterflies."

Annabelle overheard bits of KK and Caz discussing chaos theory with Dixon, and, well, completely misinterpreted what she was hearing with regard to history and the butterfly effect.

"...killer butterflies?" Cue confused Connor.
