AU: Trinity Universe/FreakAngels crossover: First date

OOC: Takes place not too terribly long after this thread.

After certain events at the Chicago harbor there had been considerable amusement within the Æon Society over the pairing up of Annabelle Newfield and Connor. (Whitley Styles had won the betting pool, despite Jake's claim that he cheated.)

As for the reactions of the other FreakAngels to the news, well, who knows?

There was a furious spate of trouble starting the very next day, of course. All of the Society's founders have been run ragged for the last few weeks. For the moment though, things are quiet. (Or at least, if things ARE going crazy somewhere, someone else is handling the problem.)

Annabelle and Jake got back in town at some ungodly hour this morning, whereupon she fell asleep on one of the couches near the fireplace. (Jake is probably off somewhere regaling a pretty woman or two with tales of said adventure, because that's what he does.)

Connor is likely to enjoy the 1920's movie-going: no crowds of brats and hooligans spoiling the experience for everybody. "We could. Tonight? Tomorrow?"

Annabelle blinks, then grins. "They don't generally run them at night, not when people generally stay all afternoon."

Seriously. "They'll run, oh, lots of other things besides the feature," she explains. "News, cartoons, shorter films..."

"Sounds very different from what I knew... and sounds more fun too." He grins. "So, which time?"

Annabelle laughs. "Going to make me choose, hm?" She eyes the angle of the sun through the window. "We might be in time for this afternoon, if you wanted to go today?"

[leadinghome]

"I'd not mind. But you might be tired still, we could go tomorrow." He would prefer Annabelle to be rested and relaxed.

Annabelle smiles softly. "Point. Besides, you haven't told me what you've been up to yet," she teases.

They can actually catch up with one another and just sit and talk all afternoon! Is this that thing called normalcy that usually happens to other people?

"We did not do too much... I spent most of my time in the library, reading and writing." Putting thoughts in order... adapting. "Learning about the 1920's."

"It's a hell of a lot to get used to," she replies, a bit concerned. "Even if we don't have killer butterflies."

Annabelle overheard bits of KK and Caz discussing chaos theory with Dixon, and, well, completely misinterpreted what she was hearing with regard to history and the butterfly effect.

"...killer butterflies?" Cue confused Connor.

Annabelle's confused too. "Well, KK and Caz were talking with Dixon and I overheard a bit of it," she says with a shrug. "Something about butterflies and people not being born...."

[leadinghome]

"Oh." There be light! "Butterfly effect. Its an expression about how we can not control some stuff because it's just too complicated."

"Like we know who is the guy or guys who will start a war in a few years, so we go after them now. But taking those guys out of the picture makes room for someone even worse to step up?"

"Oh!" He's not the only one with light dawning. "That's a lot less weird than what I was thinking it was."

Seriously. "Weird name though," she remarks with a blush. She's SO glad she did not ask KK or Caz about the killer butterflies.....

"It's... I think the idea is that everything, no matter how little, plays a role. Like a butterfly flapping its wings 6 or 7 times in southeast Asia makes a a hurricane go left instead of right in the gulf of Mexico, and hit Texas instead of Florida."

"We don't know all the factors, so when we make a change, we can't control the outcome."

Annabelle ponders this for a moment. "That makes sense," she concludes. "Thanks for explaining that to me."

There are times when she feels really, really stupid. Her utter lack of any education beyond reading, writing and arithmetic is sometimes painfully obvious.

"We all know stuff... that could potentially change the future for the better." He sighs. "But what if we end making things worse?"

Annabelle nods, cuddling him closer. "We'll just have to deal with things as they come, I suppose," she replies, kissing him again. "I don't think our world is quite the same as yours, in any case."

Surely the angels would have found *some* mention of Æon in their own time if they had ever existed there, right?

Oh, Annabelle kissing! The best thing to cheer up a Connor. "No, true, but there might be enough stuff in common..."

Better to not risk the messing up, right?

Annabelle likes cheering him up.

"Then we'll deal with as it becomes necessary," she says with a smile. "The less we have to try and anticipate, the less likely we are to mess up..."

"And tomorrow, we will go to the movies." Connor smiles and nods, holding Annabelle's hands. "What you want to do today?'

"I....don't know," Annabelle replies with a chuckle. "It's enough just to be here with you, like this."


Awww, someone's blushing.

Two someones? Connor smiles sheepishly, just... sitting there, holding Annabelle's hands.

Ah, teens in love.

Somewhere, someone is surely gagging over the cuteness, we're sure.

It's oddly comfortable sitting like this, and it's been a rough few days. All of which might explain why she falls asleep with her head on Connor's shoulder.

Let them gag.

Connor slips arms around Annabelle, and holds her gently close, letting the young woman sleep.

It's been a long time since she's slept this deeply. When you can't sense people's intentions, sleeping lightly can be the only thing keeping you alive.

Connor might notice another presence peeking around the corner. One of the ladies on the kitchen staff is checking in on them, just in case they need anything.

The fact that the older ladies find the couple adorable is, let's be honest, also a factor in the attention.

Well, Connor right now needs... nothing.

Who cares its the 1920's? he's in a world where people are not hunting them, a world where he can do things to help with the Package.

And he has Annabelle.
